The last 24 hours have been ones of introductions !
Last night having a pre-dinner drink at bar deportivo, Mads was not able to have her desired Bourbon & coke but was given a vermouth (martini) by the barman - which she and all of us all enjoyed ! Then we were joined for dinner by Bill and Anne from Brisbane and Steve from Connecticut.
Bill had been informed by a camino junkie that Bar Deportivo was the last source of good food for 200kms - and he was right ! A restaurant quality meal which was enjoyed by all. However we did put the one free bottle of red wine per 4 persons to the test and found out that extra bottles had to be paid for ! The next day = today we were just about to set out when the rain came down. We hastily changed into our wet weather gear and set out expecting to get wet when the rain disappeared ! However we were satisfied that our gear would do the job ! Next because of the rain we were introduced to the rojo Rioja mud ! Conditions were wet underfoot and the red mud stuck to our shoes adding extra weight to our tired feet. Accordingly our next introduction was to tired, sore, blistered feet ! Rick and Mads struggled all day whilst Kathleen and Gab led the way. (Nurse Kathleen has been doing a great job ministering to our feet). However persistance prevailed when we made it to our chosen stop Azofra - a brand new hostal with only 2 beds per room - should be bliss tonite !
The only other intro I would like to mention is the intro to White Beans.
An anonymous member of our group who is more adventurous when ordering from the menu has been trying the white bean soup. As we all know there´s a problem - beans = wind. The resulting strategy is : lie back in bed, insert earplugs firmly, and let rip ! No hear = no problema !

ReplyDeleteGlad you got to experience that ooey gooey mud that sticks to your shoes: your Camino would have been deprived without it! I gave you those blister plasters hoping you could just give them away but it sounds like they might have all been used up by now! Say hello to the very old men and women of Atapuerca for me in a few days.
